PTI’s Shah Mahmood Qureshi, PML-N’s Shehbaz Sharif file nomination papers for PM election – Pakistan

As the country recovers from yesterday’s long and tiring parliamentary session when Imran Khan lost power, politicians went to work as usual on Sunday and submitted nomination documents for the prime minister’s election.

PTI Vice-President Shah Mahmood Qureshi submitted four forms to the NA Secretariat, and PML-N’s co-opposition candidate, Shehbaz Sharif, submitted 13 forms.

During the filing of the nomination papers, PTI challenged Shehbaz’s nomination, which was followed by heated conversations between PTI’s Qureshi and PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal.

Awan said the PML-N president has a pending lawsuit against him and has demanded that his thesis be rejected. The PTI objection was eventually dismissed and both candidates’ nomination papers were accepted.

Earlier today, PTI’s Kanwal Shauzab and Zain Qureshi arrived at the Capitol to collect geographical names on Qureshi’s behalf.

In an interview with the press, Shauzab said the document would be submitted after consultation with the party’s key committee.

The NA Secretariat initially announced that 2:00 p.m. was the deadline for submission of nomination papers for the election of the prime minister and floor leader, and that the investigation would begin at 3:00 p.m.

Earlier, the Secretariat had issued a delayed statement, but withdrew due to opposition from the opposition. According to the Secretariat, PTI has requested a delay.

The NA is set to hold a meeting tomorrow (Monday) at 2pm to elect a new prime minister after PTI President Imran Khan was ousted on a bill of no confidence raised by the opposition.
