Hyderabad: Pakistan’s Senior Vice President of Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said the PTI government does not believe in regulating the press but wants the press to play a responsible role.
At a press conference on Sunday, he said the changes to the Electronic Crimes Prevention Act (Peca) were not meant to curb the media because they are uncontainable in today’s era. The real goal was that the press should continue to perform with complete responsibility and complete freedom, he added.
The minister held out an olive branch to the media workers, saying that political parties and the media are inextricably linked and that the PTI government can discuss this issue with media representatives and come up with a solution. “There’s nothing wrong with pretentious discussions because the PTI doesn’t ignore the role of the media, which is gaining worldwide attention,” he added.
Prime Minister Ali Haider Zaidi, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Maritime Affairs, and Kureshi spoke with reporters at the home of Khawand Bux Jahejo, President of PTI’s Hyderabad business unit.
